Nine Centers in Human Design

As energetic beings, we constantly exchange energy with others in various ways. According to Human Design, the body graph has nine energy centers. Each center is a little energy hub responsible for its unique function. In 1781, humans evolved from 7-center beings to 9-center beings. Previously, we relied solely on our minds for survival. However, as our consciousness expands, we no longer rely on fight-or-flight responses to survive like we once did.

The Heart Chakra is split into the Identity Center and the Will Center in Human Design. The Solar Plexus chakra split into the Spleen (Survival/Instinct) and the Solar Plexus (Emotions). The nine energy centers are associated with the seven main chakras, and each center is linked to specific qualities, themes, and functions. Here is an overview of the nine centers:

  1. Head Center:
    •  Pressure Center-Located at the top of the chart; the Head Center is one of two pressure centers associated with inspiration, mental pressure, and the potential for overthinking. It is linked to the Gates 61, 63, and 64.
  2. Ajna Center:
    • Awareness Center- Situated in the center of the forehead, the Ajna Center is related to cognitive processing, analysis, and decision-making. It is associated with the Gates 47, 24, 4, 17, 43, and 11.
  3. Throat Center:
    • Manifestations Center- The Throat Center, located at the throat, is connected to communication, manifestation, and the expression of one’s truth. It is associated with the Gates 62, 23, 56, 35, 12, 45, 33, 8, 31, 20, and 16.
  4. G/Identity Center (Self Center):
    • Magnetic Monopole Center- Associated with our identity as direction through time and space. Located in the middle of the chart is our sense of self linked to Gates 7, 1, 13, 25, 46, 2, 15, and 10
  5. Heart Center (Will Center)
    •  Motor Center: Situated in the right upper-middle part of the body graph, the Heart Center is associated with willpower, ego, our drive for recognition, and self-worth. It is one of four motors linked to the Gates 21, 40, 26, and 51.
  6. Solar Plexus Center:
    • Motor and Awareness Center: The only center that is both an awareness center and a motor center located below the Heart Center is associated with emotions. It is linked to Gates 6, 37, 22, 36, 30, 55, and 49.
  7. Sacral Center:
    • Motor Center: Located in the lower abdomen, the Sacral Center is associated with life force energy, work, and response. It is linked to the Gates 3, 4, 5, 9, 14, 27, 29, 42, and 59.
  8. Spleen Center:
    • Awareness Center: The Spleen Center is a body awareness center on the left side of the body graph, associated with intuition, instincts, survival, health, and self-awareness in the now. It is linked to the Gates 48, 57, 44, 50, 32, 28, and 18.
  9. Root Center:
    • Motor Center: Situated at the base of the spine, the Root Center is associated with stress, ambition, and the drive for adrenaline. Pressure to move and the balance between fear and trust. It is linked to the Gates 53, 60, 52, 19, 39, 41, 58, 38, and 54.

Each individual’s body chart consists of centers that are either defined (colored in), open (white), or undefined (white with activated gates). Defined centers have reliable energy that we can access consistently. We are here to teach others from our definition (our Yang energy). In contrast, the undefined or open centers are attracted to those who have them defined, and we take in and amplify their energy. These centers are our wisdom centers (our Yin energy) because we constantly take in this energy and are here to learn from them. Our open centers are like our “school,” and we do not have consistent access to this energy, which means we are continually conditioned by those who have them defined. These centers’ definition, or lack thereof, influences an individual’s energy dynamics, decision-making processes, and overall life experience.

Defined: Colored in with Gate or Channel activations.

Undefined: White with Gate activations

Open: White without any Gate activations

FAQ: Do the open centers mean I am missing something or broken?

Answer: No, not at all!

If your centers are white/open, it doesn’t mean you are missing anything or broken; it just means this is where you learn & have great potential to become wise in those areas. The defined or colored centers are energy you have reliable & consistent access to. We each have part of the chart, but we make up the entire chart together.
